Hi, I'm Herb
- I retired in 2001 after a career in computer systems engineering.
- I'm a 3rd generation woodworker. My grandfather spent his life making store fronts, display cases, furniture, all kinds of millwork and repairing antiques. My father did wood working as a hobby. As you may gather I've been around woodworking and woodworking machinery most of my life.
- Over the years I've made furniture, jewelry boxes, wooden bells, Christmas
tree ornaments, toys, birdhouses, bowls, and more.
-
My career, as so many are today, was very stressful. Each night I would
spend an hour in my shop unwinding. Being able to work with my hands for
that hour was a blessing! What I was making wasn't important, it didn't
matter if I was only sharpening chisels, it provided the release that I
desperately needed after the long stressful hours on the job and some my
work days were 24 or 36 hours or longer.

- The story behind the Pepper Mills ~~
After I retired, I became interested in watching shows on the Food Network. One of the shows was Sara Moulton's and she had several extraordinary Pepper Mills. Those Pepper Mills seemed to be in front of the camera as much as the hostess. A little research brought to my attention that many others loved those pepper mills as much as I did. I decided to make a few pepper mills. I contacted the gentleman that made that beautiful pepper mill to ask where I could buy the grind mechanism. He was very gracious and told me where I could buy them and the various woods he used in making pepper mills. Pinky Martin is a southern gentleman if there ever was one. I haven't tried to duplicate his pepper mills. Mine are a different design but also very beautiful

- Have you ever held a beautifully turned object to the light and slowly
turned it to see the iridescence of the light reflecting off the wood? If you haven't, you have missed the hidden beauty
of wood. This beauty has a great deal to do with the finish and the way
the wood grain is running. You can see this beauty in each of my "Designer"
Pepper Mills.
